দিন-রাত্রি এবং ঋতু
আমরা দেখতে পাই যে সূর্য পূর্বে উদিত হয় এবং পশ্চিমে অস্ত যায়। কিন্তু সূর্য নড়ছে না। আমাদের পৃথিবী তার অক্ষের চারপাশে পশ্চিম থেকে পূর্ব দিকে ঘোরে। যদি আমরা একটি রেখা আঁকি, যা উত্তর মেরু এবং দক্ষিণ মেরুকে কেন্দ্র করে সংযুক্ত করে, তাহলে এই রেখাটিকে পৃথিবীর অক্ষ বলা হয়। পৃথিবীর অক্ষ 66½° কোণে হেলে থাকে। পৃথিবীর নিজের অক্ষের চারপাশে পশ্চিম থেকে পূর্ব দিকে চলাকে পৃথিবীর ঘূর্ণন বলা হয়। একটি ঘূর্ণন সম্পন্ন করতে 24 ঘন্টা সময় লাগে। আমরা সূর্য থেকে আলো পাই। কিন্তু সমগ্র পৃথিবী একবারে সূর্য থেকে আলো পেতে পারে না। সূর্যের দিকে মুখ করা পৃথিবীর অর্ধেক অংশ আলো পায় এবং দিন হয়ে যায়। বিপরীত দিকটি অন্ধকার থাকে এবং রাত হয়ে যায়।
সকল গ্রহ সূর্যের চারদিকে ঘোরে। সূর্যের চারপাশে পৃথিবীর ঘূর্ণনকে পৃথিবীর বিপ্লব বলা হয়। পৃথিবীর একটি ঘূর্ণন সম্পন্ন করতে ৩৬৫ দিন সময় লাগে। আসলে, এটি ৩৬৫ দিন এবং ৬ ঘন্টা। সুতরাং, এক বছরে ৩৬৫ দিন থাকে। কিন্তু প্রতি চতুর্থ বছরে ৩৬৬ দিন থাকে। সেই বছরে ফেব্রুয়ারিতে ২৯ দিন থাকে। সেই বছরকে "লিপ ইয়ার" বলা হয়। এক বছরে ৫২ সপ্তাহ থাকে।
বছরে ছয়টি ঋতু থাকে। এগুলো হলো গ্রীষ্ম, বর্ষা, শরৎ, শিশির, শীত এবং বসন্ত। প্রতিটি ঋতুতেই আমরা ভিন্ন ভিন্ন আবহাওয়া এবং প্রকৃতি অনুভব করি। গ্রীষ্ম খুব গরম, শীত শীতল। কিন্তু শরৎ এবং বসন্ত খুব মনোরম। প্রতিটি ঋতুতে আমরা ভিন্ন ভিন্ন পোশাক পরি, বিভিন্ন উৎসব উদযাপন করি।

4 . Answer the following.
a) What do you mean by Rotation?
Ans: Rotation is circular movement. The movement of the earth From
west to east around its axis is called ROTATION
Of the Earth. It takes 24 hours to complete one Rotation.
b) What do you mean by Revolution?
Ans : The movement of the earth around the sun is called REVOLUTION of the earth.
c) How many days are there in a leap Year?
Ans : Each leap year has 366 days .
d) What are the different seasons?
Ans : Many areas of the Earth have four seasons in a year: spring, summer, autumn and winter. In some areas, there are a different number of seasons. There are two seasons: the rainy season snd Dewy season are different.
e) How many weeks are there in a year?
Ans : There are 52 weeks in a year.
f) What is earth’s Axis?
Ans : If we draw a line, which joins North Pole and South Pole through the centre, this line is known as Axis of the earth.
g) What is Leap Year?
Ans : Every four years, February has 29 days instead of 28. So, there are 366 days in the year. This is called a leap year.
